Rajinikanth is an iconic Indian film actor. He began his career doing various jobs in Karnataka, while also attending a theatre for stage plays, to follow his dream to act. Rajinikanth gained the Indian cinema's attention in 1980 by playing the dual roles of Indiran and Chandran in Thillu Mullu , his first blockbuster and since then he has acted in over a hundred and fifty Indian films. He is the second highest paid actor in Asia, after Jackie Chan.
An accomplished dramatic actor and celebrity, he received India's third highest civilian honour, the Padmabhushan for his services to Indian cinema in 2000.Rajinikanth performs predominantly in leading roles in high-budget and major studio films, ranging from romantic comedies and drama to action thrillers. His most popular films include Thillu Mullu (1980), Thee (1981), Thalapathi (1991), Muthu (1995) and Chandramukhi (2005).
His original name was Sivaji Rao Gaekwad. He lost his mother at the age of five.
He is married to Mrs. Latha Rajinikanth, who is currently the Principal of The Ashram. They were married on February 26, 1981, at Tirupathi (Andhra Pradesh). They have two children: Aishwarya & Sowandarya. Aishwaraya recently married Actor Dhanush.
