About the Picture Slideshow/Slide Show: The Agni in Sanskrit means "Fire". Agni is a series of Short to Intermediate range ballistic missiles developed by India under the Integrated Guided Missile Development Program. As of 2007, it consists of three missiles of varying ranges- the 700 km range, short-ranged Agni-I, the 2500 km medium-range Agni-II and the 3500 km intermediate-range Agni-III.
Agni-III is the third in the Agni series of missiles. First test of Agni 3 was a failure. Agni-III was again tested on April 12, 2007, this time successfully, from the Wheeler Island off the coast of Orissa. The Indian Missile Program has been a largely indigenous one with almost all of the equipment developed by Indian scientists.
