Roger Federer is a professional tennis player who in 2004 became the 23rd World No. 1 in tennis. He is currently the No. 1 player in the world and (as of March 20, 2006) is working on the second-longest consecutive stay in the Men's World No. 1 ranking. Only Ivan Lendl and Jimmy Connors surpass him in this record.
In 2004, Federer became the first man since Mats Wilander in 1988 to win three out of four Grand Slam events in the same year. As of 2006, he is widely regarded as the dominant player of his era and is also considered as having the potential to become one of the greatest players of all time.
