He started his film carrier as actor in his first film "Aboorva Ragangal" directed by K.Balachandar. Started acting in villan roles. From being a villan actor his growth to antihero to hero to super star was great.

Rajini got his first hero role thro the director SP Muthuraman. From then on his success was in the making. His style and character has given him a special place as super star in Tamil Nadu. As days went by he became the sung hero in Tamil Nadu. Even at his age above 50, his films earn crore's of rupees.
